vices

no, not the miami kind... ha ha

So here is a bit of personal info that Im about to share... one of my biggest vices for as long I can remember is "trying to play Holy Spirit" with other people

yes, that probably makes no sense at all, so I will explain...
I always would tell people what they were doing wrong and what they needed to be doing... all under the premise of love and holding each other accountable... trouble is no one asked me to hold them accountable... (if this sounds familiar, it is, I read an argument on another blog that I know a couple of you frequent)

this has been the hardest thing for me to get over, but slowly but steadily, God is changing my heart... I need to worry about me and thats it - I am only accountable for my actions, not anyone else's

so you can do whatever you want when you are around me, and I wont look down my nose at you or tell you you are doing anything wrong... although there are a few exceptions...
If you want to get drunk, thats fine, but Im not going to be around you...
If you smoke, thats fine, but Im not going to be around you as I cant stand the smell, and neither is Gabe
If you want to curse like a sailor to me - then I probably will ask you nicely not to, b/c I think it makes you look dumb if thats the best word you can find to use in your vocabulary

do whatever you want, I dont care - if you feel guilty or convicted, then you have to answer for that... you are adult enough to live the way you want...

and I know this is going to make some people look at me badly, but honestly, I dont believe in door to door witnessing... there isnt any way I can convince someone to become a Christian, that is all Holy Spirit, so I dont really see the need in "witnessing" in the typical meaning of the word... I believe in living a Christ-centered life, and letting my actions do the talking/witnessing... and if anyone has questions, then by all means, I would sit down and talk about whatever is on thier mind... but God will put me in the path of whoever I need to talk to - I dont have to go door to door... hmmm... now maybe God will put someone in my path that does believe in door to door and I will have to re-evaluate my whole system...

but honestly, the Christ (thats not a typo, I did type "the" Christ)didnt do the whole door to door thing... He just went and hung out at the local bar... he he, thats me paraphrasing... but thats about right...

not sure where Im going with this, guess I just needed to write it down somewhere and this seemed like a good place... feel free to agree or disagree

I dont know why I think this is funny, but I guess it kind-of has to do with the post (mostly I just found it on google images and thought it was funny, it was done by skot olsen - you can find more of his works here and no, I dont know him personally)

hmm... I wonder if you're talking about my pet peeve on my 100 things list?? :)

Seriously, that WAS my pet peeve. People instructing me on what to do, or that I was being "sinful" because they didn't agree with my actions. For example, watching Harry Potter is sinful in one of my friends opinions. So is drinking, etc. Needless to say, she is no longer one of my close friends & also one of the reasons I strayed so far from religion during my undergrad years of college. I've recently gotten back into a new church, one that's very loving & accepting... exactly the way I pictured Jesus was. Like you said (and SO appropriately, I had to laugh at your visualization!) he wasn't going door to door. I believe that's one of the quickest way to turn off a non-believer. That AND judging. If someone tells me I'm wrong, I will go out of my way to NOT adhere to their standards.

Anyway, I try to live my life by example, and be a loving and kind Christian. I volunteer in my church, I'm going on a mission trip to Honduras in May, I try to act as kind as possible. Of course, I slip up, I'm only human. My standards are also very, very different from other people (like the Harry Potter girl I mentioned).

Sorry, I'm completely rambling, hope I made sense! Ciao!
